Cycle clothing part three

So yes, we all know that flapping clothes adds extra wind resistance. It is bad enough that I am not pencil thin, so cant afford to wear a flapping jacket. I have found that the combination of wool and a windproof vest over the jersey is my go to combination.

I find that anything heavier just makes me far too hot. I also prefer shorts to long pants as unless it is really cold...long pants are too hot. I have experimented with knee and arm warmers....so so.

One thing I have learned is to have a sweater or a change of clothes in my car. After a sweaty time trial, it is nice to change before going out for a beer!

I am getting ready for the Kennebunkport tour and called Graeme in a panic. Turns out that I am doing okay and my endurance event, some 100 miles per day for 4 days straight should be fine.

A week after that is a shorter endurance event,,the Rideau Lakes tour.

Today I did Cyclo Hit 7 (not too bad) Hit 8 ( Very hard) and could only do 1/2 of HIT 9 because the phone was ringing and I was pooped. Is this a sign of things to come? I hope not.

http://cyclo-core.com/c90/Karinelangley CLOTHES 2

Shorts versus bibs? I have tried them both. Shorts are more practical but not as comfortable. The bib shorts stay in place much better. The problem is the cost especially for women so here is what I have found:

1) There is precious little difference between mens and womens shorts. I wear mens shorts, cheaper and better quality and they fit

2) Ebay has some amazing deals

The mystery of cycling clothing...figured out!

I think it took me a few years to finally get cycling clothing. The problem is: what do you do when it is cold and or wet?

I tried wearing jackets...too bulky too hot...tried wearing rain jackets..and I get wetter on the inside than the outside.

Here is what I learned: Rain jackets are useless. They are not breathable. For really miserable cold wet stuff when I cant get off the bike, I have a cheap plastic jacket...not breathable with velcro attachments.  Keeps the cold rain off me, I am still wet inside but at least that is warm! I now use a LOOK PRO rain vest. It is very light, sleeveless and stretchy and yes, it keeps my chest warm and stops the wind and rain. The sleeveless is great as getting wet arms is not the problem for hypothermia.

I have learned that the best layering piece bar none is a wool T shirt from MEC, I have a short sleeved one and two sleeveless ones. Wool breathes, does not stink...does not keep you wet and clammy and is warm. On cool mornings, I often just have a jersey with my wool undershirt whereas my friends have jackets etc. Great!
